Porta Borsari in Verona, Italy

This is one of the doors that were used to enter the city of Verona. In 1882 the city was struck by a large flood, which led to the construction of banks that changed the face of the ancient city, sweeping away the mills and the landing places on the river. On the sides of Porta Borsari you can see some engraved lines that indicates the level of the water during the flood.

In the middle of this Plaza you can admire a monument for Dante Alighieri. You can get here from Piazza delle Erbe, walking past Torre dei Lamberti, and under Arco della Costa. If you look at the archway you can see a big Bone, who is said to be of a whale (nobody is really sure). The legend says that if you are a liar and you walk under the archway the bone is supposed to fall on your head. And that's when I figured that I am no liar 😉
