Lake George is one of the most beautiful and cleanest lakes in the US making it extremely popular in the summer. Little Whiteface Mountain is a pretty popular out and back trail that starts at the Whiteface Base Lodge. It's a good distance, only about 4 and a half miles with great views of Lake Placid and the surrounding High Peaks at the top.

This popular trail is located very close to Lake George Village. The trailhead is in a neighborhood and there is an iron bridge that spans I-87 that you have to cross. The summit has beautiful 360 views of the southern part of the lake.

Bear Den is another popular trail in the Lake Placid area. It's a bit shorter at 3 and a half miles total, but it is a great option for any season. If you visit in the winter be sure to have snow shoes or spikes in case of ice and heavy snow. Once you reach the top take a break and watch the skiers and snowboarders over at Whiteface Mountain.
