Best Breweries in Portland
Riley Roberson
What makes a brewery good? The selection? The specific types of beer? The garage door that is inevitably at every single one? It's pretty subjective. The best brewery is ultimately the one that is best to you, so here are some great options for you to choose from.
Wayfinder Beer, Upright Brewing, Modern Times Beer - Belmont Fermentorium, StormBreaker Brewing, Great Notion Brewing - Alberta, Little Beast Brewing Beer Garden, Culmination Brewing, Hair of the Dog Brewing Company, Occidental Brewing Company

I wanted to make sure I included a basement option, otherwise I would feel bad about my breweries list. This place uses open fermentation, which is the uniqueness you'd be checking off on your list when you visit.

Modern Times Beer - Belmont Fermentorium in Portland, United States

I believe this brewery originated in San Diego and has re-contexualized itself in this Portland setting. Without trying, and I don't even know if this is a thing, they have created a fusion brewery of San Diego and Portland styles, two excellent places. Where you're from matters, and getting to experience the San Diego past and Portland present is a unique thing to try.

StormBreaker Brewing in Portland, United States

Outside of having a name that sounds like it's straight out of a Brandon Sanderson novel, this brewery probably has the best outdoor space that will show up on this list. If you want to make sure you have a safe place to exercise your brewery-hopping, this would be your spot.

Great Notion Brewing - Alberta in Portland, United States

I don't think it would be a stretch for me to say that visiting this brewery would be a good idea. Some places are a little scared to try things that are too out there, but this place prioritizes thinking outside of the box, and they have several hoppy trophies to prove it.

This brewery gets the Oh Wow I Guess It Used To Be A House Award for best shop design. It also is a beer garden, so it makes you feel at home and adventurous. They have a Pinetop West Coast IPA for you to try while you're feeling comfortable there.

Culmination Brewing in Portland, United States

So many options, they have soda, they have a great outdoors place. If you're feeling a brewery trip with a group on a warmer day, this would be a great spot to hang out and try something new.

This definitely-not-a-groomer brewery is one of the OG breweries in Portland, dating back to '93. If it's hard for you to see differences from one brewery to the next, this brewery would be a good option for you because you can go knowing they've been at it for almost 30 years now!

Occidental Brewing Company in Portland, United States

This brewery gets points for a great name and a great view. Everything about this place looks great, including the coordinated beer can designs. If you are hyper visual and care less about the specific types of beer, I suggest this brewery (although they also have good beer).

This has to be at the top of your list on breweries to try. It has won several local awards, it's right next to the river, and the founders drew inspiration from Germany and the Czech Republic. Several great options to try, a great spot to pair with other restaurants in the area, and right in the heart of Portland. Hard to neglect.
